Slave 1

By Simon Taylor

Slave 1 is my favourite vehicle from Star wars. The kit from Fine Molds is well detailed. The size is good to work with. The parts fit together well, the joints are hidden and some parts slot together so well that they don't even need gluing.

The body paint work was made up of base layers of gray, with black and red. For the dark and light green I used combinations of masking and hand torn loose paper masking for the faded light green paintwork. Lots of knife work, scrapping back and weathering the red. I used black washes to bring out the panel lines, with some dry brush silver to the edges. I didn't use the decals.

This model was a joy to build. Had to put it on a rotating base to get a look at it form all angles. The hard part for this kit was knowing when to stop.
