The Batboat

By Scott Messer

After sitting on my shelf for who knows how long I finally got around to finishing the Revell 1/25 Batboat from Batman Forever. I build the kit straight from the box, which only took about 2 hours including filling and sanding a few seams. Painting took about 8 hours.

The exterior was painted semi-flat black then dry-brushed metallic graphite. The cockpit area was painted the same semi-flat black then dry-brushed light gray, then flat white. This made the red, yellow, blue and silver details stand out better on the black background. A final dry-brushing of metallic graphite detailed the seat and steering column as well as tied the open cockpit into the exterior finish. The "neon glow" coming from the hull panels was done by first painting the pieces "Blue Angels" blue, then dry-brushing them light powder blue. I then did a black wash to some selected details followed by another layer of light blue. Finally I dry-brushed flat white to bring out extreme highlight areas.
