The utilitarian Starfleet Runabout served as a main means of space travel on ST DS9 until the Defiant came along later in the show. This replica was made with the AMT 1:72 scale kit and measures over 12 inches in length. The model is painted with Testors Light Gray and highlighted with Dark and Light Ghost Grays. The upper sensor assembly was painted with Camouflage gray.

Now I wanted do a few other things to make the model more interesting so I scratch built a landing pad as well. The pad was made with a styrene plastic sheet that was glued onto a flat piece of plywood. I detailed it further with plastic strips and then weathered it with pastels. I didn't follow any particular design or schematic.

You can also see I added one more piece, the USS Enterprise 1:72 scale shuttlepod. This was made with a kit available from Federation Models. It comes complete with decals and the detailing is quite accurate. The Starfleet personnel are converted HO train scale model figures. They seem a bit small for the Runabout but when you look at the Shuttlepod, the scale looks appropriate. So I suppose the Runabout was really that big.
