Any looking for something to do one night after work, give this kit a go. I was at first very sceptical on building a snap kit. Upon seeing one built and displayed at a hobby shop in Melbourne, Victoria, however, I took the plunge and invested very little money in some thing that has turned out quite nice. One little thing that the kit dose not come with a stand. For those who did not notice I have use a Starfury stand I had laying around. It was easy to mount by drilling a 3.6mm hole into the bottom of the Starfighter. Then I carved the top of the stand to follow the shape of the belly of the Starfighter and super glued into place. As the box describes, no glue is required. I found that a little in places held the kit together well reducing the well hidden gaps. The canopy does open and this shows off the fact it is a snap kit with small gaps around the sides. As for painting the model, forget it as it comes painted - even the figure is done for you and for those figure painters, yes the eyes as well. So you may ask what else is there to do. What skill is there in a kit you can build and display in a couple of hours of modelling that you don't have to glue or paint? Watching the Star Wars episode I noticed that the Starfighter wasn't as clean as the one I had just completed so out with my washes and pastels. This type of kit has given me good Ideas to practice my weathering techniques on. One of the reasons for buying this kit was the scale was close to have some where to mount my completed Blue Moon Bug Bot that I had purchased from Starship Modeller some months before. That's a resin kit of 13 parts with little clean up. I built up the little bugger then a quick coat of chrome paint, a little green with some gun metal, then a wash in black had it finished and waiting for a suitable place to attach it. I modified R2D2 to have him fighting with the droid. I just drilled out the top section on R2D2's dome and with a little Evergreen I constructed the little weapon he use to disable the droid in the film. In all the Starfighter took 4 hours to build a weather and measures 198mm long x 170mm wide or 7.79" long x 6.69" wide. It was a good little kit to build.
