Slave 1 |

I started this Project for the son a dear friend of mine. His favorite Star Wars character is Boba Fett and even though he's a Fett-collector, there was one important piece missing - the infamous Slave I ! I hadn't tried this model before, because I didn't have a clue how to complete the canopy's window. For this version, I created multiple balsa wood profiles, glued them together and sanded to produce a master mold. Then, using vacu-formed transparent commercial wrappers, some boiling hot water and the utmost care, I was able to create the canopy - shaped to perfection. One more “new” technique that I applied was to “sponge” some acrylic paint on the pieces before assembly, just to achieve the scraped-paint look. The paint was not really watered down, so the cardboard and papers used wouldn't bulge out inappropriately. If you use this technique, just make sure to let the piece dry before assembly and if possible, leave under a heavy book for a couple hours - just to play it safe. The Stabilizer Fins and Blasters are poseable on this model - that way it can be displayed on flight or landing positions. It was a fun project and really turned out better than I expected. Happy (although really early) Birthday Jason!
