This is my AT-ST model from AMT. Using some of the great examples here on SSM, a quick Google search for reference photos of the original filming model, and a dash of artistic freedom; this is what I ended up with. I wanted to use some 1/72 scale storm troopers I've had in my parts box for a while. Yeah, I know, so now it's a REALLY BIG Walker... They did it with the Bird of Prey in Star Trek, so leave me alone! Since I knew I wanted to open up the visors and hatch, I figured I'd go ahead and scratch an interior for the beast. Once more into the parts bin to scrounge up some 1/72nd cockpit seats, some tank suspension bits and pieces, some left over photo-etch, and some sheet styrene and I was in business. While I was at it, I pulled out a missle launcher from a 1/72 Vietnam era fighter jet, and some more armor suspension pieces for greeblies. I ended up re-working the hips to make them symetrical, and closed in the open inside sections with sheet styrene and greeblies. The original kit hatch is WAY too big for 1/72, so I cut out the center section, and glued the outside ring to the top of the model. I built the hand rail and antennas from some braided "flexible beading needles" that I found at the local craft store. The base is a simple wood plaque and the sand is right out of my kid's sand box and mixed with white glue. Image: Left/front view Image: Rear Image: Closeup |
