Bruce Campbell as Ash Williams ("the name's 'Ash'; Housewares") from "Army of Darkness". "In an age of darkness. At a time of evil. When the world needed a
hero. What it got was him."
He starts out the movie as somewhat of a coward but ultimately finds his courage and leads the defense of Arthur's castle from the onslaught of the army of the dead. With a chainsaw attached to his right arm and his trusty shotgun in his other, he defeats the evil pit monster near the beginning of the movie. After that he replaces the chainsaw with a metal gauntlet hand.
The Model
The model was scratchbuilt from heavy cardstock and designed in a style known as "hako" (Japanese for "box") which is very popular in Japan, along the same lines as the "super deformed" style of models. Hako style doesn't mean only rectangular boxes, but should be simple geometric forms. Proportions are exagerated so head, hands and feet are deliberately large compared to the body and limbs.
One of the features of the Ash model is the poseable arms. The model was designed in 3D using Rhino3D and virtually "unfolded" into a flat outline pattern. This was then imported into PaintShop Pro and painted. This was then printed on Wausau Bright White 65lb. cardstock using an Epson C64 DuraBright inkjet printer. The entire model fits onto a single 8.5 x 11 inch sheet. The model was cut out, folded and then glued together using plain Elmer's white glue.
