“176 Roger Young” Troop Transporter from the blockbuster Sci-Fi Movie “Starship Troopers”

I bought this model few month ago on Federation Models wich I have to admit is one of the best online shops for sci-fi kits in the world. They always doing their best to run a perfect costumer service! The I-factory Galactic Intruder, as it is called, is a very nice resin kit measuring over 18 inch when built. For more information about this kit you should read this review here on Starship Modeler.

It took me a few weeks to finish that model and it was always really a lot of fun. My english is not too good so I am not able to explain every single working stage in detail - sorry! After the model was built I did some additional detailing. I glued a lot of tiny plastic squares cut from evergreen stripes to the nose section of the kit. A few more plates were added here and there on the ship. The sensors on the top of the model were built from scratch.

The overall color of the model is dark grey by Revell. After a wash with thinned flat black I drybrushed the whole model with white. After that all the nice details came out. Then I applied all water slide decals. After drying the model was coated with testors dull coat.

The lots of windows on the surface of the model were done with window decals by JBOT decals. I asked Jim from “jbot decals” if he is able to print small white dots. I told him what I wanted to have and he send me the perfect solution for my needs. These cool window decals are now available in his shop and I highly recommend them. Not only for use on the roger young - but they will look great on any other big ships.

The kit contains also parts for building a “fighter carrier - version” and a “cargo transporter version”. I also built and painted these parts although I did not need them for my model. I decided to display the parts on the base as well. For the “fighter carrier - version” the kit has some nice small “TAC bombers”. During building my “troop carrier - version” I thought it would be nice to have some tiny dropships. So I scratchbuilt one small dropship. A friend of mine made a few resin casts of the dropship. Nine of them are mounted at the side of the model - one is just droppin`. Two dropships are parking on the TAC-bomber deck. I am very lucky with my dropships - they are so cute!

The TAC bomber flight escorts are another little gimmick I added to the model. I don't know who flies the Viper joining the escort. I also don't know in which part of the galaxy far far away the Roger Young gets the “tick-bit” at the back of the tower.

The base is a wooden board I finished with mid gloss black. (16 mm x 530 mm x 170 mm).

All the images were taken outdoors. Good light and good camera show more than I wanted to show on the pictures. So please excuse any dust and seeds on the model.
